Product Description: Wanted: Midwife/nurse practitioner in Virgin River, population six hundred. Make a difference against the backdrop of towering California redwoods and crystal-clear rivers. Rent-free cabin included.
When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving: the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she's made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.
But a tiny baby, abandoned on a front porch, changes her plans…and a former marine cements them into place.
Melinda Monroe may have come to Virgin River looking for escape, but instead she finds her home.

Melinda Monroe is tired of the heartache, tired of the sympathy, and most of all, tired of living in a home where memories of her once happy future constantly assail her. All but dead inside with grief over the death of her husband, Mel discovers a job opportunity in the charming and idyllic town of Virgin River, up in the untouched splendor of Northern California. Although her sister pleads with her that running away to some mountain region backwater will not solve her problems, Mel packs up her ... Read More

My preferred emotions include excitement, passion, surprise, and humor. The emotions this book elicits are grief, sadness, comfort, warmth, pleasant romantic feelings, friendship feelings, and some oohs and aahs when babies are born. It feels more like a human relationships story than a romance novel, but there is a strong romance. There is a lot of time spent on various characters in the community which is interesting. The two main characters are grieving for people who died in the past. Jack grieves ... Read More

I could not wait to read this book based on the reviews here at Amazon. What I read was a very predictable story that I felt had been done before. Mel was a likeable heroine and so was Jack her love interest. The story I had figured out by the first few chapters. This book is easy to read and for me just light fluff. I did not love or hate it. It just is not worthy of all the 5 star reviews on Amazon.
