Directions did not come in the box, so I had to print them off the internet. Directions were somewhat confusing. Gate is not really easy to open with one hand. I have this gate to blocks steps on my deck. It serves its purpose.

We bought this as a replacement for a gate my 4 year old couldn't open and close- the baby (11 months) kept getting out and even fell down the stairs once. Whew, this one is so much better! It looks much nicer and feels tons sturdier than the plastic ones and is not too hard for my 4 year old to open. She's happy, we're happy, the baby is happy (unless we're on the opposite side) :) We were able to mount it on the bannister on both sides. We just put a decorative molding on one side to attach ... This was the only gate that I found that met the needs we had for a top and bottom of the stairs gate. I've been very happy with the functioning of the gate and its looks.
Based on other reviews I was very meticulous with following the instructions. I found the instructions to be descriptive enough with the inclusion of the pictures. We went through 4 plastic gates in our kitchen doorway before we broke down and bought this one. All those plastic ones are too heavy for the hardware that comes with them and the hinges end up breaking!
