This doesn't detect urin and it is a bad flashlight. However it does make an OK paper weight.

Maybe it's my eyes but I couldn't find any evidence of secretions or other bodily fluids on any of my pets bedding or in areas that I know realistically, they would be present. The only clear indication came when I examined the litter pan with the stink finder. Drove a total of 90 miles today so that I could work on some spots over the holidays. They must not bother to test these units, as it was DOA right out of the box. I don't know how it would work, should it have arrived alive, but I'm not going to try this brand again to find out. Cheaply made, and I mean cheaply. I have an old dog and a new cat. I don't know for sure who is having the accidents (I'm pretty sure it's the dog) but I knew there was a problem on our bedroom floor. I couldn't see stains anywhere but my nose told me there was definitely something there. I happened upon this light at my local Petco & gave it a try. It is so easy. This ultra-violet light is a necessity for any pet who might have an accident -don't they all? Will locate the source of odors but you need to use it in a completely dark room. Also be sure to replace batteries in correct order or the black light will not work, even though the flashlight will. (I threw away two of these before I figured that out!)
