I originally bought this product at a pet store for my older cat with renal failure, thinking it would encourage him to drink more. I think he used it more than a regular bowl, but he never caught on to the drinking from the dome concept. After Max died, I adopted two younger cats. They both loved the fountain and drank directly from the dome.

The one thing that drew me to try this fountain over others was the dome. With the water on it, there's less of a chance of splashing like I was reading in a lot of reviews about other cat fountains that have a stream.
I know some reviewers expressed a difficulty in getting the dome put back on right, and I admit that I had a little trouble at first. After several months of use though I have really got it down, and no longer have to think at all about who to put it back on.

I just got a 12 week old kitten. He took to the drinking fountain right away. He loves drinking from the dome and from the resevoir.
The only time this fountain gets really noisy is when the water level gets too low. For some reason, my water level shrinks pretty quickly. Not sure if it's evaporation or the kitten drinks so much water.

I bought this with the hope that my two cats would drink more water and that I would have to fuss less with their water container. To my dismay after two months my older cat never drunk out of it (that's even with her drinking less out of the sink)I was so worried that she would become dehydrated. I've got two cats and needed a fountain for my male because he developed crystals. It tooks me months to figure out which fountain to buy, but I finally went with this because I'd read the water stays cool. I'm so glad I did because both of my cats are drinking lots and lots of water now. Whenever I refill the dome I take the time to wash it out. Once a week I wash out the air pump, filter and dish.
