I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about but I had no sense of an odor out of the box or otherwise. The liner gleefully covers the back of my SUV protecting my new car from the tremendous amount of hair shed by my Australian shepherd. The light, quilted padding gives her some extra insulation and comfort and the Velcro strips secure it in place. i used to use an old sleeping bag or old quilt but this liner is much less bulkly and there's no scrunching when she jumps in. I ordered the Solvitex cargo liner because its materials as described (cotton & polyester) seemed straightforward and non-toxic, for the sake of our dog and ourselves in our new car.
