I bought this for the top of my stairs to protect my toddler and allow my cat to pass through. It's a well-built gate, and the little cat door has a nice lock to allow you to choose to keep it open or closed. But this gate did not work for my purposes. First, it requires screwing caps into your walls to hold the pressure-mounted sides. I don't think that's clearly advertised here. I bought a pressure-mounted gate to avoid screwing into our walls! I just installed my new gate. First, you HAVE to screw it into the wall as you can't tighten the top without blocking the door (I accidentally snapped the handle due to pressure, thankfully the handle still works). Second,once installed it looked great until I opened the cat door and my 45lb Aussie Shepard/Spaniel mix jumped through the cat door. Finally, I found a dog gate that is tall and sturdy enough to keep my lab in the kitchen when we go out (he was from the pound and had crate issues and when he is alone, he tends to pee on the floor - the kitchen is much easier to clean up after that). We did have to use screws in the caps on the wall or he would just jump on the gate until it fell. This is just the best gate for us because of the height. This was the tallest gate I could find, it's metal, so it's really heavy-duty, it has a door, so no more stepping over and it has a cat-door. This gate has everything you need if you own a big dog and cat - it's such a relief! It solved all our problems with one gate and the cat-door was a clever bonus.
My only concern is that if you brace the gate in the doorway with tension as tightly as you'd like, the door won't open - basically the tension pinches the gate sides against the person-door ... Read More
