This has changed our life. No longer does our cat beg for food from us, he begs for food from the machine. I guess I should mention that we recently put him on a diet, and he used to wake us up throughout the night wanting food - we now actually get a full night's sleep. I realize that wasn't the original purpose of the machine, but it is great.
Also, both my husband and I take a lot of 1-3 day business trips, where 1 of the days will overlap, and it has made those significantly easier on our cat as we no longer have to board him - which he hated. Having the different options for feeding cycles (24 vs 12 vs 6 hrs) is also nice - we chose the 12 hrs, which gives 3 days worth of food, but I could see how 6 would be nice. And the battery lasted almost 8 months, unlike our friends cat/water feeder.
My only complaint would be that it would be nice if there was some kind of alarm when the battery was low and if there was an 8 hr option. But, really, those are minor, especially as our cat comes an complains when it is empty or when it didn't turn.

I agree with most of the reviews. I have owned this feeder for about 5 years now. It is reliable and simple and easy to clean. I saw one reviewer who said their cat broke into the feeder. One thing I learned quickly is that you really have to snap the lid into place. I did not do that initially -- it was only partly snapped into place -- and my cat could easily move the top. So, perhaps that is the problem with that reviewer's unit? Anyway, the things I dont like about it: 1) battery operated and the battery lasts only about a month when set to every 12 hours; 2) the timer is simple, but as one reviewer noted, you cant set it to the time of day, only to open every 6, 12 or 24 hours. Unfortunately, I dropped the motor today while replacing the battery, so I am now shopping for a new one!

I have three cats, two of whom overeat if dry food is always available. I use this bowl for portion control. It can be set to open a new compartment every 6, 12 or 24 hours. I have it set to open every six hours, and it has proven to be very effective. Because the cats get a feeding at 4 AM, they have stopped bugging the humans to get up earlier to feed them. The bowl is very low-tech (a battery turns the lid above six compartments), easy to clean, and promises to last very well.

Product meets its basic claims, however, design improvements are needed.
-very very difficult to snap timer and trays together and line them up properly
-ice packs leak
-tray not dishwasher friendly - oversized and stops the washer arms from rotating
-which direction is the rotation? Can it be indicated on the dish please? I will take a sharpie and mark it. This is important because I freeze a can of food for the feedings two days away, and dont want them to get THAT feeding on the day I leave
cats have adjusted well to their "space feeders" and the product does what it claims, but its kinda a p.i.t.a. for the owner
I would like to see a feeder come out with a timer with hourly settings like a light timer, so I don't have to set up the feeder 6,12 or 24 hours exactly in advance of the cats mealtimes

I read many, many reviews before buying this product. Many were bad, particularly for the 8-day feeder. But after reading about other mistakes and reading the directions carefully, this product has worked great for me. My cat had gotten in the habit of wanting to be fed at 3am every morning and this solved the problem. Now the machine feeds him and I stay in bed, he is also pre-fed when I get home from work. I have used it only with dry food, and it has not jammed as long as I only put 1/2 cup of food in it. It is somewhat loud, and wakes me up sometimes, but it better than a cat meowing for 3 hrs. My cat has not tried to break into it either, but he doesn't have claws. Overall, very satisfied and much cheaper than boarding over a long weekend!
