First, when using the template- the gate did not align correctly. Secondly, went expanded, my three year old was standing on the gate, and the plastic pieces on one side completely cracked- the screws were still in place!
This is not the best gate if you have kids that will stand on it.

I will say that this gate is the only swinging gate I have found that is secure but my older children can still open it to get through. It also doesnt look as junky as alot of the other ones.
However- the actual walk through opening is rather annoying as its very narrow. About 20 inches maybe. My laundry basket doesnt fit through and because of the bottom bar that sits on the floor, it is also harder to get your vacuum etc in to where you want to go. If you are used to moving a pack n play or exersaucer or the like through the doorway, that will be very difficult as well.
The height of this gate is 36 inches which makes that even harder since you have a higher gate to lift your things over.
That said, the one I just purchased is sitting here- and Im not quite sure wether to keep it yet.
You would think that by now some manufacturer could have made a perfect gate.

We've had this gate for almost a year now. It sits at the bottom of the stairs, therefore, the bar at the bottom isn't a problem. The height is great so that you don't have to lean down to open it. You simply have to raise the bar a bit and it opens. Strange as it may sound, I am able to do this hands free so long as I'm barefoot... I can use my toes to lift the door up just enough for it to open :-).
I love the fact that the gate self closes. This is very handy for when you have your hands full. The only problem we have had with the gate is when the gate does self close, sometimes it closes hard enough to pop the spring out of the latch on the swinging door so that it won't close. We have managed to get around this by taping the latch onto the door so that it never comes off and the spring stays in.
This gate also keeps our dogs downstairs. We have had much success with this gate. We've never had a problem with it becoming unaligned, either. Perhaps we have it in tighter than other people do. Oh, and as far as it being noisy? Please... it makes a closing sound if you let it slam but you have control over that.
I highly recommend this gate! We're having trouble now, however, finding a gate for the top of the stairs. I'm not sure if this gate is a good idea for the top since it poses a potential tripping hazard.

We purchased this gate by default but ended up loving it. We needed a gate wide enough to close off a hallway (both bathroom and basement stairs are behind it) and it was one of the few that would adjust wide enough. I origionally wanted a "hands free" gate but soon found out from friends that with time the toddlers weight and creativity would enable them to open it. My son is 25 months now, and still is unable to breach the security of this gate. We chose not to drill holes in the wall to secure the cups & help hold the gate in alignment, so we do need to adjust the "swing" about every 2 months. Does not seem to be a problem for us nor does the one handed opening. The reviews about "slamming" the gate never even crossed my mind, we walk through our gate-not run and thus it closes slower. I have also tried to make sure my child is used to noise during sleep from the start (lets face it, the world can't always be quiet just because the baby is sleeping). I love this gate and the fact that there is no place for my child to get a "foot hold" and climb is extra helpful, the height makes me feel more confident that he will not try to climb over and end up falling on his head. I do reccomend putting opening instrutions on the top for when company comes to visit.

We bought this gate to prevent our toddlers of climbing the gate to get where they want to be even though they shouldn't be there. We had a swing gate before this one and they learned quickly how to climb it! For their safety and my peace of mind we spent the money to buy this gate and it works! No more climbing over the gate especially at night to get in bed with us. Mommy and Daddy need their sleep with out extra bodies in bed with them! :) I recommend this gate highly even though it is somewhat pricey! Watch Toys R Us for their baby days and they usually give some money off! We saved $5.00 today! Hope this helps you to make a decision weather to buy this gate or not!
