We have a hardwood staircase and did not want to drill holes. This was perfect for my 9 month old son that is trying to figure out how to walk. And I love the fact that the door closes behind me so I usually don't worry if it is closed once I walk away... but I check anyway (I'm a new mom). Great Gate!!!

This gate is perfect for what I was looking for- a sturdy pressure gate with larger width and heighth to keep our 60-lb dog in our front yard. One thing to note, when opening the gate, you need to pull up on the door enough to release the top & bottom "latches". Once you explain it to others, we've found that its not an issue. It should definitely work to keep smaller children in, as releasing the door takes more coordination than younger ages might have. Make sure everyone steps over the 1" rise when walking through the door-- or you might be readjusting the gate to get it back into place. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. I like the sturdiness and the look of this metal gate. My 7 and 9 year old children have no problems using it-- and our dog is happy to be able to join us in the front yard.

I think the worst part of safty shopping is for the gates. So many out there boast that they are the best; so I started to read customer reviews. We were moving into a two-story house and needed a great pressure mounted gate for the bottom of the stairs. First I got the "hands free" one from I think it was safty 1st, with the pedal at the bottom...my daughter figured out how to open it, so it had to be returned! After a few more misses, I bought this one and I love it! The opening is wide, but not too wide. I am a bigger person, and I have no problems getting through this gate with child in tow! It works perfectly in our home and I am completely pleased with it!

I bought this gate as a barrier to keep our new puppy out of the kids playroom. In my mind, for what I needed it to do, it does. From reading the reviews, I needed a gate my 4 and 6 year olds could learn to open and they can, but still have a little difficulty. So if you want it as a child barrier, it would also work well. If you don't show them how to open it, it would take them a while to figure it out. We had to use the smaller extension, but it still seems very sturdy. I also needed a gate that was taller than the normal gate and this height is great. Even when our puppy gets bigger, she won't be able to jump over it but I didn't want it too tall that the kids wouldn't be able to reach the handle. Overall, I recommend this gate for both pet and child barriers.
