I have only one thing to say... STATIC.. yes that is all you will get from this piece of junk...Both the video and the sound...static...I returned the second day and purchased BebeSounds TV984...What a difference. TV 984 monitor is not portable, it has to be plugged in...no batteries, but It has cristal clear sound and video...I have the monitor on the 3rd floor and the receiver on the first floor and still cristal clear. Avoid the summer infant and purchase BebeSounds TV984, you won't be sorry.

The monitor is functional but is easily affected by radio frequency interference, even at short distances of less than 20 feet in a wood frame house. Color is generally not visible unless the room is brightly lit. The night time display is quite usable, though it could be made better if the user had the option to shut down half of the IR lights to prevent near image saturation.
Despite the shortcomings, we are glad we have this portable monitor to help us keep an eye on our new infant daughter when she is in her crib.

With the birth of our third baby, we decided to upgrade our monitor to this, the Sumer Day & Night handheld monitor. With our previous two children we used the Summer Day & Night (non-handheld) monitor. The picture on the handheld version seems to be a lot clearer and the convenience of being able to carry around the monitor is worth every penny. The sound quality is unbeatable - we can even hear our baby breathing through our monitor. The only negatives we can say about this product is that the other (non-handheld) monitor is not compatible with the new camera. Also, the size of the monitor (1.8) could stand to be a bit bigger, but the next size up (the 2.5 screen size) is a ridiculous jump in price. That being said, I would highly recommend this monitor.

We love this so far. we can see and hear our baby breathing. it made the transition to his own room much easier. We keep it plugged in at night with the picture off, and sound on. I just hope it lasts a few years so we get our money;s worth.

The audio static from this monitor made it impossible for me to sleep. Most of the time the audio and video reception were fine, but about once every two minutes a loud static would broadcast making it impossible to fall or stay asleep. By the second week of this of this, I was too jelous to watch my son sleeping perfectly soundly on the monitor while I was kept wide awake!
