We bought our first Summer Video Monitor for my son who is now a year old... We're expecting our second son in May, 2006 and will be purchasing a 2nd Summer Video Monitor for him...
The monitor has always functioned properly, yes, there is static from time to time, but you just have to reposition your monitor - not the camera. The monitor has been dropped several times but has not had any damage.
The one thing we're having problems with is finding a new battery replacement - but I haven't looked that hard.

This particular model came highly recommended by several friends, so I decided to go ahead and spend the extra $$ for it. At first I was really disappointed- the unit I bought was terrible! If you set the camera to "A" and the monitor to "B", you could get a very grainy image if you were standing in the same room. If you left the room, or set it to any other channel, the screen went black. From what I have read online, I do not think this is an uncommon problem.
BUT-
The instructions give a toll free number to call if you have any problems, so I decided to start there. First of all, I got a real person on the line right away- always a big plus with me! After explaining the problem, the customer service rep said they would be sending out a new unit along with postage to send the broken unit back. That was it! No excuses or arguing. I have to say I was very impressed.
The new unit works great! The picture and sound are crystal clear. I do get a little static in the kitchen- not sure why as my cordless phone is supposed to be compatible, but it is pretty minimal and doesn't bother me. You do need to have the camera within 6 feet of the crib to get a really good picture, but if you don't have a place to set the camera you can use the mounting hardware that is included to attach it to the wall.
Overall this is definitely worth the extra money, and I would give it 5 stars if not for the initial problems.

I bought and tried 3 other video monitors and none of them worked in our house except this one. It works wonderfully and has allowed us to be outside or in our bedroom and still see our son while he is napping or sleeping. I love that it is portable! It has given me such peace of mind to be able to see what my son is doing so I know whether I need to go in his room or not and if I need to give him more time to settle back down and go to sleep. It also helps because I can tell if he is trying to climb out of the crib or has gotten a foot stuck, etc... I used to always try to peek in his room to check on him and this woke him up or caused him to cry more - this has really helped with that. I can't say enough good about this product! It has really helped our family!

I have never reviewed a product before but I had to comment on this one. I registered for A LOT of items when I was pregnant - including 3 different kinds of monitors. We received them all and this was by far our favorite - we returned the other two. We have a large house and are able to see a great picture of our baby whether it's day or night regardless of where we are in the house. The night vision is great - a little creepy when the baby's eyes are open and staring straight at the camera in the dark. You can hear every sound he makes and are able to see whether he's waking or just turning in his sleep. We even took the monitor with us to visit our in-laws in Florida - we were able to sit by the pool outside while he slept soundly in a room upstairs. The handheld monitor is fantastic - stays charged for a long time. The camera - while it needs to be plugged in, comes with a VERY long cord (unlike a lot of other baby products that need to be plugged in) so you don't need to rearrange your nursery or get extension to be able to set up the camera nearthe crib. Love it, love it, love it. Our baby is now 5 months old and in my relatively new experience, when it comes to baby items, this is definitely one of my top 5 favorite and most often used.

I love having this monitor. My husband and I really like that it has the night vision also. I really like being able to see my daughter without waking her up. It made the transition of her sleeping in our room into her own room much smoother.
