It took my cat a week to get used to the fountain. He now drinks from it all the time. The Aqua Garden srouted within days. it stays clips to the fountain and it easy to maintain. but my cat doesn't eat the grass - not sure why. The garden is not a necessity, so only get it if you think your cat would eat it. We have a plant that out cat prefers to eat instead.

with the hairball/throwing up issue. I have two medium haired cats who bathe themselves constantly and go through spouts of throwing up hairballs. I have tried different foods and misc items that claim to help with cats natural digestion and hairball assistance/control. Although my cats loved to chew on the grass it only changed the throwing up from hairballs to grass.
I have since quit using this product.

My cat started vomiting as soon as I dropped the seed pod in the fountain. It grew grass well enough, which is good because when my cat vomited the grass a few days later it was pretty easy to figure out why she was sick. Cool idea, but it cost me money and made my cat sick, so to be honest I'd give 0 stars if possible.

I purchased one of these at the same time I purchased the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain for my cat's 8th birthday. We hooked it up immediately to the fountain and within a few days we had some pretty impressive looking grass. The construction, design, and ease of use of this product is superb. However, there are some definite problems. Some of which can be attributed to the product itself and some depend upon the individual cat or cats that this product is intended for.
In our case, only one of our cats had anything at all to do with the grass and eating it was not it. He would simply pull it out of the plastic garden and would leave it lying either in the water itself or next to the fountain. Our other cat wouldn't even make the effort to even tear it out of the plastic garden. Now this particular issue was merely an individual choice for our cats.
The resulting problem that we had since the grass was only being pulled out and not eaten was the grass lying in the bottom of the fountain and making the water a bit slimy and discolored. When we were awake and saw the grass floating in the water we would immediately pull it out and throw it away. However, when we were sleeping the water would lie in the water for an extended period of time and would then discolor the water and make it a bit slimy.
If your cats will eat the grass and not leave it in the water, then I would have to recommend this product. However, if your cats are like mine and don't eat the grass, then I wouldn't recommend this product at all due to the fact that it makes a mess and creates unnecessary pollution in your cat's water.

This product works just as described and lasts quite a while. Unfortunately, my cats wouldn't eat it so I kept triming it down as it was growing so tall, it was falling over. Too expensive to try again.
