We have 3 long haired cats and have tried every litter box under the sun that promised "no tracking". This system is the first that truly delivered. WE still get a few pellets outside the boxes but they are easy to pick up with our hand vacuum.
We've been using the system for 4 months now and here are some tricks we found to make it work. We find that Pet Fresh (made by Arm & Hammer and usually used for carpets is a BIG help in keeping the odors under control. It's really cheap too.)
1. Right after they go number 2, we sprinkle Pet Fresh on it. This is because one of our cats doesn't cover his poops after he goes. The scoop works best after they have a chace to dry our a little.
2. The loose stool issue. This can be a real mess trying to get them out with a scoop. I found that using paper towels or toilet paper to pick them up is the easiest and cleanest way to get them out.
3. The pan that holds the pads starts to retail the smell of urine after a month or 2. Solution: Sprinkle Pet Fresh on the pan, then put the pad in the pan.
4. Issue: the sides of the pan start to smell and poop gets stuck to it. Solution: We keep Wipes, paper towels and spray cleaner near the box and wipe the box and scoop whenever it gets bad.
5. Expense: We have found that if we look out for coupons and sales we can get the pads for about a dollar each and the pellets last a month in each box. We used to change the litter ever week and went through so much that we have found this system to actually be cheaper. The worst place to buy the pellets and pads is Petco - they are triple the price. Best place for us has been Target and Stop & Shop - we stock up when they are on sale.
6. Transitioning: It took us almost a month of increasing adding the pellets to the old litter. Every time we scooped the old litter we added more pellets. The whole time we had the new system right next to the old one. By the time the old system was almost all pellets they were using both so we got more breezes and got rid of the old. We did have a couple times where they went outside the box, but that was it.
It wasn't easy to change, but to not have litter and urine tracked all over the house is such a god send that it was well worth the trouble. My greatest fear is that they might stop making the refills! I was glad to read that someone said you could use the system without with the pads if you dump the urine every day. That would be not be ideal but it's nice to know it works. I was also thinking you could use doggie pee pads if necessary. As for the pellets, I'm going to try "Yesterdays' News" pellets and see if they would work. or may even tiny river rocks that are washable? washable pellets you don't have to replace would be awesome for the environment. Trouble is they won't get to make as money off them - but I"m going to be on the look out for something that works!

No, the title is not overstated. I generally don't write reviews, but I had to on this product. This system is phenomenal. There is no urine smell. None. Nada Zip. Zilch. Until you change the pad out once a week, but that's fast, easy, and doable in a small enough amount of time that you can hold your nose and not breathe. I have the new system in my bathroom, and I just pick up the poop on top with toilet paper, flush, spray the air, and done.
Yes, it's a little more expensive than the traditional system, but like I said... it's changed my life. Oh yeah, and since buying this system, I've also written a novel, gone skydiving, and learned to figure skate, play the violin, and speak fluent Cantonese. Who knew a litter box system could be so life-altering?

It took awhile for my hard-headed cats to accept the new system, but once they did, it has been great. MUCH less cat-box odor! They do manage to kick a few of those pellets out of the box, but it's way easier to manage than the fine-grained scoopable litter.

Because seriously, this might just be the best thing I've ever purchased. Ever.
For five years, I've dreaded walking barefoot through my home. My soles knew no peace. Chunky clumps of clay between my toes. Small blue "odor crystals" sticking to my heel. The fine sand that coated my skin.
I found bits in my bed.
Sediment on my sofa.
In the tub. On the counter. Stuck in the drain.
I tried everything: covered boxes, kitty litter mats, self-cleaning boxes. I swept; I swept every day. I tried putting the box somewhere far away, thinking there was no way she could track litter anywhere I'd notice. I think she carried pieces one by one in her mouth just to spite me.
I'd almost lost hope when I saw the one-day sale for this system posted on dealnews. I thought, "What the heck, for $20 I'll try it." I padded it with a cheap book for free shipping, and a few days later my savior arrived.
I took it home. My cat looked dubious; I felt uncertain. I unpacked the contents. I thought the included scoop with the little hook to sit on the box was a nice touch, but I was far from convinced. The old box was pretty stinky, so my cat was excited when I dragged it out of the closet. It took me about five minutes to put the breeze together. It was light, and easy to assemble. I inserted the mega maxi-pad (pee-pad) and poured in the pellets. I was surprised at how heavy they were - these really would be a challenge to kicked out. The pee-pad fit perfectly in the tray.
I put it in the closet and stepped back. My cat was there, quivering with anticipation. She looked inside. Sniffed. And it was a go!
Since that day, I've never looked back. The pellets stay clean, the pee stays hidden. There's no stinky smell at all. My cat is five, and she's never had any behavioral or diarrhea related issues. If your cat suffers from these problems, this might not work, but I'd say it's still worth a shot.
I change the pad once a week, and I have yet to change the pellets (I've been using it for about three weeks). I think the person who washes them might be on to something - mine look really clean.
Every once in a while I find a pellet loose on the floor, but I just chuck it back in. I flush the poop since it's not covered in litter (which drops off the poop while carrying it), which generally makes the whole process less disgusting.
I can't believe it took this long for such a thing to be invented.

I bought 2 of these for my 2 two year old cats. One of them used hers as a bed. The other cat never even went near his, even after I followed all tips and recommendations by the manufacturer. Don't waste your money.
